About
James McGowan is a pianist (jazz and classical), improviser, conductor, accompanist, composer/arranger, music theorist, and faculty member at Carleton University.
He performs and records with groups including the James McGowan Ensemble (photo on left by Curtis Perry), Modasaurus, Collected Strands, Michael Curtis Hanna, Rachel Beausoleil, cellist Cal McGowan, and others.
Dr. McGowan is an award-winning educator and Associate Professor in the Music program at Carleton University, where he teaches music theory, composition, and musicianship. He is the managing director of the Carleton Jazz Camp, editor of the SMTJazz-affiliated Jazz Theory Bibliography, president of the board of directors at Lotus Centre for Special Music Education, as well as instructor at CAMMAC Music Centre and Discovery University.
